Heroes' Journey Scholarship Fund · June 12–14, 2026 · Secret Location

Apply for a Scholarship

This retreat costs $2,495. We know that's a lot of money. For some men, it's not possible — and those are often the men who need it most. The Heroes' Journey Scholarship Fund exists so that money is never the reason a man doesn't get the help he needs.

What you should know:

This is the inaugural Heroes' Journey. The Scholarship Fund is new and still growing — we're actively fundraising through donations and exploring other avenues like crowdfunding. Because of that, scholarship slots are limited: 1–2 per retreat session.

That means this process is a bit more involved than the standard application. You'll fill out a longer form below, and if your application moves forward, we'll schedule a phone interview. Not an interrogation — a conversation. We want to understand your situation and make sure this retreat is the right thing for you right now.

There is no judgment here. Asking for help is not weakness. It's one of the bravest things a man can do. We just want to make sure the limited scholarships go to men who truly need them and are ready to do the work.

If you are selected, no one will ever know. Not the other participants, not the elders, not the staff. You arrive on the same bus, sit at the same table, stand at the same fire. Your financial situation is completely private. Always.

About You

Your Situation

This section helps us understand your financial circumstances. Be honest — there is no wrong answer. Everything here is confidential.

Tell us what makes it difficult or impossible for you to afford the full cost. You don't need to share dollar amounts or financial documents — just tell us your situation in your own words.

Optional, but it helps us understand how much this matters to you.

The Real Questions

These are the same questions every applicant answers. Scholarship or not, you're held to the same standard — the only currency here is honesty.

Don't write what you think we want to hear. Write what's true.

Completely optional. If you want to say something, this is a safe place to do it.

Optional. Could be relationships, fatherhood, career, purpose, emotional health, grief — whatever comes to mind.

Confidential. This helps our support team prepare appropriately.

Emergency Contact

This person can reach you through us in an emergency.

What to Know Before You Arrive

Scholarship recipients follow the same guidelines as every other participant. No exceptions, no differences.

The location is a secret. For the inaugural retreat, the venue is not disclosed publicly. You'll receive a meeting point no less than 2 weeks before the retreat date — less than 2 hours from Minneapolis. From there, you'll be transported by private bus. You won't know where you're going until you arrive. That's part of it.

You will not see anyone until the reveal. At check-in, your blindfold goes on before you see another participant. No talking. No seeing. Only listening, feeling, and experiencing. Not on the bus. Not until you arrive at the lodge and the blindfolds come off together. This is intentional.

Your phone, wallet, and keys are collected at check-in. Everything is secured and returned to you at the end of the weekend. You will have one phone call per day (up to 5 minutes) if you need it. Your emergency contact will be given the host's direct number before the retreat begins — they can reach you immediately in any emergency.

Exceptions are made with context. Medically necessary items are always permitted — medications, CPAP machines, anything prescribed. Nicotine sources (vape, dip, patches) are permitted. If you have a unique situation, just let us know. We're reasonable people.

No alcohol. No drugs. This is a completely substance-free weekend. No exceptions.

What to Pack

Pack light. You won't need much.

  • 2–3 comfortable shirts (no logos, no branding — keep it plain)
  • Pants or shorts for each day
  • Socks and underwear
  • Comfortable shoes (you'll be on trails, gravel, and grass)
  • Swim trunks (lake access)
  • A jacket or hoodie (June nights by the lake can get cool)
  • Toiletries — toothbrush, deodorant, the basics
  • Any prescribed medications

That's it. No watches, no jewelry, no branded gear. The point is to show up as yourself — not as your wardrobe.
