The Artisans

Made by Hand. Carried Home.

Every man who attends The Heroes' Journey leaves with something he can hold. Not a certificate. Not a t-shirt. A hand-forged knife and a handcrafted ceramic mug — made by real artists who were given one instruction: make something worthy of what these men went through.

These are friends, not vendors. They've been given full creative freedom. They are the artists, not us. We're just excited to see what they come up with.

Hand-Forged Knives

Uncle Jed's Iron

Jed

Justin and Jed have been friends since they were five years old. Jed is an incredibly talented artist and blacksmith who hand-forges every blade in his shop.

Every man who attends The Heroes' Journey will leave with a hand-forged knife — made specifically for this retreat. Jed has been given full creative freedom to design these however he sees fit. He is the artist. The result will be a one-of-a-kind keepsake — something you can hold in your hand and remember what happened here.

Handcrafted Ceramic Mugs

Lofted Acre Studios

Matt Hiller

Justin has known Matt since he was a little kid — the younger brother of one of his closest friends. Matt now runs his own ceramics studio out of Alaska.

Every man will also receive a handcrafted ceramic mug — made by Matt in his Alaska studio. Like the knives, Matt has full creative freedom to design these however he sees fit. These aren't merchandise. They're art. Something you'll drink your morning coffee from and remember the men who sat across from you at that long table.

Small-Batch Roasted Coffee

Ember Coffee Co.

Matt

Justin and Matt have been friends since 2018. Long before Ember Coffee was ever conceived, Matt correlated coffee with connection. He'd show up at a friend's house with a bag of his favorite beans and sit at the table — sometimes to talk about serious things, sometimes not. Coffee is not coffee to Matt. It's connection. He holds a master's in theology and is the author of Invited — a book Justin was fortunate enough to be acknowledged in. Matt and his beautiful family run Ember Coffee Co. together.

All of the coffee at The Heroes' Journey is sourced from Ember Coffee Co. Matt roasts in small batches with the same intention he's always brought to a cup of coffee — slow down, sit across from someone, and be present. It'll be on from the moment you wake up to the last conversation at the fire. This is not retreat coffee. This is the real thing.
